11.00am | DAVID PIPE Leeds Cathedral | David Pipe (Organist of Leeds Cathedral and Director of the Organists’ Training Programme, Diocese of Leeds) introduces the magnificent organ of the city’s iconic St David’s Hall and is joined by John Biddle (narrator) to perform Bob Chilcott’s Mr Majeika and the Magic Organ, based on Humphrey Carpenter’s popular children’s story. In addition, Bach’s mighty Toccata and Fugue in D minor will be played by David and, to show the organ’s versatility, he will also play music from Star Wars and Harry Potter! |
followed by | JEREMY SAMPSON | Workshop for children using the Wooden One-Octave Organ for Technologists (WOOFYT). A fascinating, hands-on experience for children which introduces them to the principles and mechanics of the organ. |
They will set up an instrument in the Foyer so audience members can try it
before and after the Mr Majeika concert.
